Claude Kitto And His Masterful Seascapes
Claude Kitto who lived from 1913 until 1996 was a watercolour artist whose speciality lay in seascapes: wonderful paintings of boats and harbour scenes.
His set of five prints of the English south coast is very beautiful – just a simple foreground with boats and building with the surrounding land and water fading into the misty distance. Also, the way he saves areas of white paper, for example for sky highlights is instructive.
I much admire the style of Claude Kitto and must admit that he is a watercolour artist I came across by chance only recently. In fact, I stumbled upon a couple of his prints in tatty frames in a charity shop a few years ago.
